At MIŠKA Clinic, we follow stringent protocols to ensure safety and natural results. Here's a comprehensive guide to what happens before, during, and after your hair transplant in Bangalore.
Before the Procedure – Pre-Operative Care
1. Initial Consultation
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation. Our surgeon will:
- Discuss your hair loss history, goals, and expectations
- Examine your scalp and assess donor area quality
- Recommend the best technique (FUE, DHI, or FUT) and estimate graft count
- Provide a transparent cost quote
2. Medical Evaluation
We ensure you're in good health for the procedure. Inform us of:
- Any medical conditions (diabetes, hypertension, heart conditions)
- All medications you're currently taking
- Allergies, especially to local anaesthetics
- Previous scalp surgeries or scars
3. Pre-Operative Instructions (1–2 Weeks Before)
- Smoking — Reduce or quit smoking; it impairs healing and graft survival
- Alcohol — Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours before surgery
- Blood thinners — Discontinue aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood thinners as advised
- Hair — Keep donor area at a suitable length (our team will advise)
- Diet — Eat a light meal on the day of the procedure
During the Procedure – Step-by-Step
A typical hair transplant at MIŠKA takes 6–10 hours depending on graft count. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia — you remain awake but feel no pain.
Step 1: Anaesthesia and Donor Preparation
Local anaesthesia is administered to the donor area (back and sides of the scalp). You may feel slight pinpricks initially, after which the area becomes numb. The donor area is then prepared for extraction.
Step 2: Hairline Design
Our surgeon designs your hairline based on your facial structure, age, and preferences. We create a natural-looking hairline that will age well. You can approve the design before we proceed.
Step 3: Recipient Area Anaesthesia
The recipient (balding) area is numbed. Some clinics use a tumescent solution to minimise bleeding and swelling.
Step 4: Extraction
For FUE, individual follicles are extracted using a micro-punch (0.7–1.0mm). For DHI, the Choi implanter extracts and implants in one step. For FUT, a strip is removed and dissected under a microscope. Extracted grafts are kept in a special solution to maintain viability.
Step 5: Implantation
Grafts are carefully placed into tiny incisions at the correct angle, depth, and direction. This determines how natural your results will look. Our team uses high-precision instruments for optimal density and natural growth pattern.
Step 6: Dressing and Instructions
Once complete, the scalp is cleaned and dressed. You receive detailed post-operative instructions, medications, and a care kit. Most patients can leave the same day.
After the Procedure – Post-Operative Care
Day 1–3
- Rest with head elevated (use 2–3 pillows) to reduce swelling
- Take prescribed antibiotics and pain relief if needed
- Do not touch, scratch, or wash the transplant area
- Avoid bending, heavy lifting, or strenuous activity
Day 4–7
- You may start gentle hair washing as per our instructions (usually from day 3–5)
- Use only the provided or recommended shampoo; pat dry gently
- Scabs will begin to fall off — do not pick them
- Most patients return to desk work within 3–5 days
Week 2–4
- Transplanted hair will shed (this is normal — the follicles remain)
- Continue gentle washing and avoid sun exposure
- No gym, swimming, or intense exercise for at least 2–3 weeks
Long-Term Care
- Sun protection for several months
- Avoid harsh chemicals or heat styling initially
- Attend follow-up appointments as scheduled
Recovery Timeline – When Will I See Results?
Weeks 1–2: Scabs fall off; shedding of transplanted hair begins (normal).
Months 1–3: "Dormant" phase — hair follicles are preparing to grow.
Months 3–4: New hair begins to grow — fine and thin initially.
Months 6–9: Hair thickens and gains colour; visible improvement.
Months 9–12: Full results typically achieved.
Our approach is minimally invasive with zero post-procedure pain for most patients. You can typically resume light activities the day after the procedure.
