What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone to act as artificial tooth roots. They provide a strong foundation for fixed or removable replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Unlike dentures or bridges, implants fuse with the bone (osseointegration) over 3–6 months, offering a permanent, stable solution.
At MIŠKA, we use FDA-approved implant systems and follow evidence-based protocols. Our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Itishree (BDS, MDS), brings specialist expertise to every implant procedure.
Who Needs Dental Implants?
- Missing one or more teeth due to decay, trauma, or gum disease
- Dentures that slip, cause discomfort, or limit eating
- Bridges that require grinding down healthy adjacent teeth
- Bone loss prevention—implants stimulate the jawbone
- Desire for a permanent, natural-looking solution
Benefits of Dental Implants
- Natural appearance & feel – Match your existing teeth
- Durability – With proper care, implants can last a lifetime
- Improved chewing & speech – No slipping or discomfort
- Bone preservation – Stimulates jawbone, prevents resorption
- No damage to adjacent teeth – Unlike bridges
- Confidence – Smile and eat without worry
The Dental Implant Process
- Consultation & Evaluation – Medical history, clinical examination, X-rays, and 3D imaging (CBCT) to assess bone quantity and quality. We identify any conditions (e.g. insufficient bone, sinus issues) that need to be addressed.
- Treatment Planning – Number of implants, implant type, need for bone graft/sinus lift, and timeline. We discuss cost, duration, and expectations with you.
- Implant Placement – Under local anaesthesia (sedation if needed), the implant is placed into the jawbone. The site is sutured, and a healing period of 3–6 months allows osseointegration.
- Abutment Placement – A connector (abutment) is attached to the implant. Gums are allowed to heal around it (1–2 weeks).
- Crown Placement – A custom-made crown is fixed onto the abutment, completing the restoration.
Our SOPs & Quality Assurance
At MIŠKA, we follow strict Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety, sterility, and predictable outcomes. Our protocols cover:
- Pre-procedure – Medical and dental history review, informed consent, allergy check, antibiotic prophylaxis (where indicated), and pre-operative instructions.
- Sterilization & Infection Control – Autoclave sterilization of all instruments (Class B cycle). Single-use disposables (needles, syringes, gloves, bibs). Surface disinfection between patients. Sterile draping and surgical handwashing.
- Aseptic Technique – Strict no-touch technique during implant placement. Sterile implant kits opened at point of use. Irrigation with sterile saline.
- Documentation – Signed consent forms, treatment records, implant serial numbers logged, X-rays and CBCT stored in patient file. Follow-up schedule documented.
- Post-operative Protocol – Written and verbal aftercare instructions, prescribed medications, suture removal (if applicable), and scheduled follow-up visits at 1 week, 3 months, and as needed for crown delivery.
