What Is Orthodontic Treatment?
Orthodontics corrects misaligned teeth and jaws using braces, clear aligners, or other appliances. Treatment improves aesthetics, function (chewing, speech), and long-term oral health by reducing the risk of decay, gum disease, and abnormal wear.
At MIŠKA we offer traditional metal braces, ceramic (tooth-coloured) braces, and clear aligner systems. We tailor the plan to your needs, age, and lifestyle.
Who Needs Orthodontics?
- Crowded or crooked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Overbite, underbite, or crossbite
- Protruding or retruding teeth
- Jaw alignment issues
- Desire for a straighter, more confident smile
Treatment Options
- Metal Braces – Traditional brackets and wires. Durable, cost-effective. Coloured bands optional for children.
- Ceramic Braces – Tooth-coloured brackets. Less visible, good for adults.
- Clear Aligners – Removable, nearly invisible trays. Changed every 1–2 weeks. Ideal for mild to moderate cases.
The Orthodontic Process
- Consultation – Clinical examination, X-rays, photos, impressions or scans. We discuss diagnosis, options, duration, and cost.
- Treatment Planning – Customised plan. Extractions or other preparatory work if needed.
- Placement / Fitting – Braces bonded or aligners delivered. Instructions on care, diet, and hygiene.
- Adjustments – Regular visits (every 4–8 weeks for braces; aligner checks as per protocol) for adjustments and progress monitoring.
- Retention – Retainers (fixed or removable) to maintain results. Long-term retention plan.
Our SOPs & Quality Assurance
- Pre-treatment Assessment – Full records: clinical exam, X-rays, photographs, impressions/scans. Informed consent. Oral hygiene and periodontal health must be satisfactory.
- Sterilization – All instruments sterilized. Disposable items where applicable. Bracket bonding follows infection control and isolation protocol.
- Bonding Protocol – Proper enamel conditioning, bonding agent, correct bracket placement. Verification of positioning.
- Adjustment Protocol – Systematic wire/aligner progression. Documentation of each visit. Patient advised on care and emergencies (loose bracket, wire poke).
- Documentation – Treatment plan, progress notes, retention plan. Recall scheduling.
- Patient Education – Oral hygiene with braces/aligners, diet restrictions (avoid hard/sticky foods with braces), aligner wear time (22 hrs/day typically), retainer wear instructions.
Care During Treatment
- Brush and floss carefully; use interdental brushes if needed
- Avoid hard, sticky foods that can break braces
- Wear aligners as instructed (typically 20–22 hours/day)
